Citizens on Patrol
Tonight I volunteered with my neighborhood's CITIZENS ON PATROL program. It is a great way to connect with some neighbors, the local police and to really get to know every square inch of the neighborhood. I was paired up with a neighbor that I didn't know (I always ask to be paired up with someone new) and we drove around the back alleys of the neighborhood, reporting suspicious behavior to the presinct through a walkie-talkie that they provide. All told we were out for about 3.5 hours. Thankfully it was a quiet night! If your neighborhood doesn't have a COPS program, perhaps you can start one!

Great way to get involved in the community and meet other locals...I've been noticing neighborhood watch program signs on the speed limit signs in my neighborhood...I'm going to call city hall and see how we can get involved..
